The usefulness of characterizations on thermal and/or climatic chambers: equipment performance and GLP
Mar 11, 2026 — 02:25 pm - 2:50 PMPôle Métrologie

Conference summary
Today, almost all laboratories use thermostatic chambers: ovens, incubators, refrigerators, climatic chambers. And almost all have a metrology certificate.
But one question is rarely asked: Does this certificate truly tell me how my equipment performs under my conditions of use?
In France, we have a strong specificity: the FD X 15-140 standard. It provides a demanding framework, but one that is often misunderstood, sometimes poorly applied, and sometimes poorly utilized.
The problem is not the standard itself, but its interpretation:
• certificate ≠ conformity of use
• conformity ≠ actual performance
• performance ≠ process control
The real challenge is to know if my chamber is suitable for my use, AND/OR if my tolerances are realistic, AND/OR if my decisions are based on actionable measurements.
This is exactly what we will explore together!
